“Do at home what you do abroad!” This could be the motto for the project with green learning spaces and local entrepreneurship that Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke (MS ActionAid) has established in their two courtyards at Fælledvej 12 in Nørrebro in Copenhagen, which reflects one of MS’s approaches to youth and activist-oriented development work.
As we are ourselves tenants at MS and use the courtyards on a daily basis, we are among those who will benefit greatly from an even better and multi-functional courtyard. In 2023, we therefore established a design team tasked with rethinking the two courtyards in a unified landscape approach, and at the same time develop two buildings, one for each courtyard: a multi-functional and foldable shed made of recycled materials, and a transparent learning space with a focus on creating a daylight-rich outdoor experience, in a covered and heated space.
The project has been financed through a couple of major donations and Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke is now working to realize the project.
