FANT (Football for A New Tomorrow) is a Danish development organization that strengthens vulnerable youth’s self-esteem and prospects through participation in organized sports. In Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown, we assist FANT in designing a hybrid clubhouse and social meeting space that prevents young people from street life and into a committed and enriching community.
At the time of writing, the clubhouse is currently in the design stage and being prepared for construction by a voluntary project group under Architects Without Borders Denmark, which draws on local knowledge about youth culture, building traditions, and much more.
DEVELOPMENT TARGETS
- To offer the vulnerable youth in one of Freetown’s poorer districts the opportunity for positive contact, which at the same time reduces the risks of involvement in criminal activities.
- Capacity building of local labor through collaborations with local artisans. The construction process also functions as training, internships through weekly construction meetings and sparring.
