The Cooperative Land Access & Investment Model (CLAIM) is an initiative we have launched with our Ugandan partner organizations to explore and develop innovative ways to transform slums.
The initiative is divided into three phases: survey, pilot and full scale. In the initial survey phase, we initiate a series of consultations and workshops with stakeholders in selected slums in Kampala and among relevant municipal and state authorities.
In phase 1, we investigate whether the conditions are in place for an effort to transform slums through local planning and redistribution of land ownership. The goal is to establish a model where better housing in slums can be created through utilization of the inherent land value – so-called Land Value Capture.
DEVELOPMENT TARGETS
- To build capacity of Ugandan partners and stakeholders to apply land value capture methods in pro-poor urban development
- To establish an organizational and partner foundation to develop a land-value-capture based model for better housing in slums.
