On this Evening Without Borders we will be visited by our sister organization Architects Without Borders Palestine, which consists of architects and planners from the West Bank. They are in Copenhagen to participate in a masterclass on citizen participation in Gaza’s reconstruction, organized by Architects Without Borders, and this evening they will talk about how urban planning and building laws are used by the Israeli occupation as a tool of oppression.

We look forward to inviting you to an evening where you can meet experienced Palestinian architects and urban planners, some of them civil servants, who fight daily against the violent consequences of illegal Israeli settlements and arbitrary restrictions on Palestinian freedom of movement. For example, did you know that Hebron, the largest city in the West Bank with over 200,000 inhabitants, currently has only one road in and out, controlled by the Israeli military?
Time and place:
Wednesday, November 5 from 18-20 at Copenhagen Architecture Forum, Halmtorvet 27, 1700 Kbh V.
The event is open and free for everyone but requires prior registration via this link.
Evening Without Borders is our public event series where we look at what is happening in the solidarity branch of the architectural profession. Here we expand the perception of what architecture and planning is and can do by giving the floor to people with experience in supporting solidarity and human development with the tools of the profession.
We suggest watching the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, created in an Israeli-Palestinian collaboration, before the event. It can be seen for free on DR – link here.
Our initiative “Gaza – healing through participation” aims to increase the capacity of our Palestinian peers to involve the people of Gaza in the reconstruction process. In a four-day masterclass designed for the purpose, we seek to pass on concrete methods from the rich Danish tradition of participation in urban and local planning, urban transformation and urban design.
The initiative is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.
