The massive destruction of the built environment in Ukraine presents a unique chance to not only build back better, but to build back greener. Architects Without Borders and Arup have therefore joined up to support the spread of low-emission and bio-based construction methods in Ukraine, through the Build Back Green Initiative.
Community House in Voznesensk
We begin by building a bio-based community house in the Ukrainian city Voznesensk, in the Mykolaiv region. The building will serve local needs and provide a much needed communal venue for various events, and where different user groups including war veterans, parents, youth groups and others can gather, organise, and socialise in a difficult time.
The building will showcase the use and benefits of low-emission building materials with the aim of inspiring the future reconstruction efforts and point them in a greener direction. It will also adhere to universal design principles, in dialogue with the Ukrainian disability advocacy group Fight for Right.
The community house is currently being designed and prepared for construction by a Denmark-based team of Ukrainian architects, volunteering with Architects Without Borders in support of a green transition of their war-torn country. The project is being developed in close collaboration with Voznesensk Municipality to ensure that local needs are met.
Open for Partnerships
The initiative is generously funded by Dreyers Fond, but as construction prices have risen since the project’s inception we’re currenly looking for one or more financial partners who can see themselves in a supporting role for this initiative.
At this information & partnership event you can meet the team of Ukrainian architects who will make the first public presentation of the project and the bid for a new Ukrainian architecture that it represents. This event will conclude with the presentation of various funding opportunities which participants can take home for further consideration. Architects Without Borders, Arup and the project team will be present to answer questions during and after the event.
